The California Department of Education has announced the availability of training tools for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.  AB 1432 (Assemblyman Mike Gatto, D-Los Angeles) was approved by Governor Brown in September of 2014.  The bill requires state local education agencies (LEA) to train mandated reporters annually to identify and report possible cases of neglect or child abuse.  Training is required within the first six weeks of each school year or the first six weeks of that person’s employment.  The bill also requires a process for all persons required to receive training to provide proof of completion.  Online training instruction has been developed by the California Department of Social Services and is available free of charge.
