The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) seeks qualified candidates

The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) is currently seeking qualified candidates to fill a “Public Member” vacancy on its Committee of Credentials.  The Committee reviews allegations of misconduct on the part of public school educators, evaluates evidence and makes disciplinary recommendations.  The position is time- and labor-intensive - the committee meets for three consecutive days each month, in Sacramento, and there’s a considerable amount of reading to be done in advance of each meeting – and provides little recognition, but is of great consequence.

Should you know of anyone who may have the time and interest – and who meets the necessary requirements, please apprise him/her of this opportunity.   Applicants must not have served as a certificated employee or board member in a public school district during the course of the previous five years.  Among other additional qualifications, applicants must also possess knowledge of:

1. Community standards of behavior as applied to certificated public school employees.

2. Community attitudes toward public school education.

3. Circumstances and conditions under which certificated persons are employed.

4. Evaluation of evidence.

5. Elementary parliamentary procedure.

Of the five categories from which members of the committee are drawn, the “Public Member” is, realistically, the only category a person with a professional private school background is eligible to fill.
