About Fred Finch Youth Center Oakland Hills Academy - Avalon

Fred Finch Learning Center - Avalon is a program of Fred finch Youth Center.  The NPS is specifically designed to serve adolescents ages 12-22 with a developmental disability, including intellectual disability and autism.  Many students also have additional mental health needs, and the school offers day treatment services integrated within the specially designed school program.  The special education curriculum is based on the California State Frameworks as well as the requirements of the school district of origin.  Students receive individual and group instruction based on academic functioning and designated IEP goals.  Students may earn a high school diploma, certificate of completion, or letter of recognition.  Vocational services are provided.

Title:  Special Education Teacher (Education Specialist)

Description

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for overseeing the classroom on a daily basis. Monitor the youth's progress, work with teaching aides on special projects, design and implement the class curriculum, and work with the NPS Day Treatment Manager/School Director on IEP's and other projects as needed.

Position Requirements

Bachelor degree from an accredited college/university required.
Must have passed California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET) OR hold a BA degree in Liberal Arts.
Must meet one of the following criteria:

Hold an Education Specialist Instruction Credential, mild moderate or moderate severe OR Preliminary Level 1 Education Specialist Instruction Credential. The candidate must have the exact credential, Level 1 or Clear.
Be enrolled in an Internship Education Specialist Instruction Program and hold an Internship Education Specialist Instruction Credential.
Have an Emergency Substitute Permit, Substitute Permit, or other current teaching credential. This criterion is ONLY applicable if working in a Substitute Teacher capacity for 20 days or less.

Clean driving record; current CA driver’s license required, or ability to obtain within 10 days after hired required.
Experience with developmentally disabled and/or severely emotionally disturbed children preferred.

Our clients are children, teens, and young adults diagnosed with developmental disabilities or emotional disorders that may be transitioning from foster care or homelessness, recovering from abuse, or underserved by traditional service providers. We provide over 3,000 youth each year with residential care, special education, vocational training, transitional housing, homeless youth programs, school-based counseling, and in-home support on residential campuses in Oakland and San Diego and in homes, schools, and communities in over several counties throughout California.
