Cell phone videos showing campus police officers using excessive and alarming force have sparked anger, rage, and questions about the use of campus police officers.   An article entitled "Do Cops in Schools Know How To Police Kids?" written by Sarah Childress, Senior Digital Reporter for FRONTLINE  Enterprise Journalism Group explores the issue.

According to Childress's article, the use of campus police has grown over the past 15 years as a way to "increase campus safety."  However, as more videos go viral showing campus police involved in unreasonable school disciplinary actions, the need for specialized training in the use of police powers in a school setting became apparent.

Following an incident that involved a School Resource Officer (SRO) and a special needs child, the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) issued a Position Statement  on August 14, 2015, addressing police involvement in school disciplinary issues.
