In December 2015, the “Every Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was reauthorized as the Every Student Succeeds Acts (ESSA).  This landmark decision improves the process by which students services are identified and delivered and increases equality of benefits available to private school students and educators.

“Every Student Succeeds Act” (ESSA) provisions do not go into effect until the 17-18 school year, however; Private school administrators are encouraged to participate in the ESSA consultations.  Offered by public school districts within their boundaries; the meetings are designed to give private school administrators a full understanding of all the advantages and federal funding programs that are available to their programs, students, and teachers.

CAPSES, through its California Association of Private School Organizations (CAPSO) membership, has provided an ESSA Consultation Guide entitled “Preparing for Your School’s Initial ESSA Timely and Meaningful Consultation Meeting.”  The guide is designed to answer questions about the new laws and opportunities and guide administrators through the process of the Consultation meeting.
