Advisory Commission on Special Ed, Advisory Commission on Charter Schools and State Board of Education seeks to fill vacancies.

State Board of Education (SBE) Seeks Applications to Fill Vacancies on the Advisory Commission on Special Education, the Advisory Commission on Charter Schools, and for the 2016-17 Student Board Member.

The SBE is currently seeking applications for appointment to serve on the Advisory Commission on Special Education (ACSE).  All applicants must be parents of a child or young adult with disabilities. The purpose of this Commission is to provide recommendations and advice to the State Board of Education, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Legislature, and the Governor in new or continuing areas of research, program development, and evaluation in California special education.  Additional duties are delineated in Education Code Sections 33590 – 33596. 

The SBE office will accept all applications that are received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2015.  Information about the application process may be found at http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/cc/ab/.

The SBE is currently seeking applications for two appointments to serve on the Advisory Commission on Charter Schools (ACCS) with charter knowledgeable applicants to represent: 1) a member of a school district governing board, or 2) a school district superintendent.

The role of the ACCS is to support the SBE. The SBE has policy-making authority on a number of issues related to individual charter schools and the California charter system as a whole. Upon request by the SBE, the ACCS shall advise the State Board on all aspects of the State Board’s duties under the Charter Schools Act of 1992.

The California State Board of Education (SBE) is now accepting applications for the 2016–17 Student Board Member position.  Any student who is a California resident and enrolled in a public high school, will be a senior in good standing in the 2016–17 school year, and will be available to attend a statewide student leader conference November 1-4, 2015 in Sacramento, is eligible to apply.
